Approach to FRA on Wednesday. The interactions of sunlight and the clouds were incredible beautiful. And then i made a decision. I need a new camera. Yes ... i have one ... my Nikon D90 and i have already invested a lot of money on it. However in the recent years it was more and more obvious to me that this large camera is keeping me from taking photos. Just out of a single reason: Because it's at home.

I was thinking about a small camera for a while now. However the next thought was "No, you have already an excellent one". I was really disappointed about having no camera with me while sitting in the aircraft looking out of the window at the awesome "scenery". So I made a quick decision: I went into the Miles&More shop at FRA and purchased a new camera with my miles - so no real money changed its owner. I know it's not the best use of airline miles, however such emotional, ad-hoc decisions are never wise.

That said, i'm know a proud owner of a Panasonic Lumic DMC-TZ10. Really nice camera i was looking at for a while now. And this photo is the first shoot with it:

Very first shoot with the new camera ...

I made this picture while sitting in the FTL lounge of Lufthansa in Frankfurt to test the tele-end of the camera. The light at the top of the photo is the light of the room reflected by the window in front of me.

You don`t own a DSLR?

Good decision! Just out of the same reasons I bought the same camera a couple months ago... The only disadvantage is the GPS, it's way to slow to be useful for point-and-shoot pictures... Besides that I really love it...

Hello Joerg

I finally have got myself an 18-200vr lens. I have to say pal that it works a treat on my old D50. I hear what you are saying about the size of the camera but with a lens like the 18-200 on your D90 you could just sling the camera in your bag and go. Granted it still does not fit into your pocket

The TZ-10 has a 25-300mm, and the new TZ-22 has a 24-384mm build-in Leica lens!

Both are ~ 10.4x5.9x3.3cm and are less then 220g (incl. battery!)

P.S.: TZ-22 und Leica. Mal wieder einer dieser traurigen Fälle, wo eine ehemals fantastische Marke vor die Hunde geht.

Ich kann nicht für Jörg sprechen, aber 6-fach optisch ist mir zuwenig (ich will mindestens 10-fach!), und wenn's dann auch erst bei 28mm anfängt, erst recht... Und ich wollte ein build-in GPS. Da blieb Mitte letzten Jahres nur die TZ-10... Man muß da also manchmal Kompromisse machen... Dafür ist sie klein genug, um fast immer dabei sein zu können, und hat einen Zoom, der alles abdeckt, was ich bisher brauchte. Und auch das GPS-Dilemma geht, weil der Akku gut 'ne Woche durchhält, wenn man das GPS auf Dauer-An stellt...

Ich trage meine alte Dynax-7D mit 18-200mm mit mir rum. Die 200 g sind natürlich in weiter Ferne und die Größe ist auch eher doppelt so groß, aber für mich ist es ein guter Kompromiss. Für Video benutze ich ein hemdentaschenkompatibles Teil.

Die Panasonic scheint mir aber im ausgeschalteten Zustand zumindest jackentaschenkompatibel zu sein.

Aus dem gleichen Grund hab ich mir vor kurzem eine Olympus FE5010 aus der Bucht geholt.. bei Spontantrips mal eben in die Jackentasche stecken oder dauerhaft im Auto liegenlassen.. fuer Schnappschuesse optimal, und wenn mal was passiert ist nicht viel Geld weg.

Fuer qualitativere Aufnahmen moecht ich mich trotzdem nicht von meiner Sony DSC-F828V trennen.. setzt halt voraus dass man die Zeit zum "Aufbauen" hat.
