Since the closure of the blog i got many many requests for giving content to people in form of an excerpt of the database. Even more. I got a significant numbers of angry mails. It seems that i was the best source for some things and thus the people were really angry about removing their source of information. I was somewhat astonished about the anger, however in absolute numbers it was significant but in relative numbers it was rather small. Nevertheless, i didn't expected angry people.

After thinking about the whole weekend i decided to put selected content back online instead of creating a pdf of the blog page and sending it to the people asking for content. As a side effect, it repairs a lot of links on Solaris related pages.

However the reasons for my blog closure are still valid, the blog stays in this freezed state. Thus i decided to do this as a selective republication. Certain classes of documents will stay offline. In that regard i made the following decision, which content gets back into blog: Personal content on one side, work related technical content as long it's related to Solaris on the other side.

No, you have missed nothing, because i won't write about it. I just put the content back online in order to unbreak a lot of links ....

Ich habe seit 2 Jahren täglich mehrmals Deinen Blog via RSS-Feed wg. Solaris besucht, und fand das Ende sehr schade - und überrasched. Danke das wenigstens einige Beiträge wieder sichtbar sein.

I was planning to write you today to plead with you to restore the content of your previous postings, but with comments closed, just to preserve the extremely valuable data you've provided to the world.

Your blog is one of only three I follow, and is likely the most valuable and directly impacting to me. (the others being Schneier's and Ben Rockwood's.

I'd rather see you add ads to your site then leave, but I understand that you must do what you feel is right.

I'm glad you decided to do as much as you have to bring the content back.

Thank you very much for years of fantastic insight into the world of Sun and Solaris (and yes, now Oracle).

Ich habe hier als langjähriger Solaris-Admin gerne gelesen, aber auch die Fotosachen mit Interesse betrachtet ...

Thanks very much Joerg! I know you will be missed, but I'm very thankful that you are restoring access to your past contributions. Over the years you have consistently put forth a lot of very useful information that I would have certainly missed otherwise.

Hallo Jörg,
die vorläufige Schließung der Seite hat mich ziemlich geschockt, einen möglichen Grund kann ich mir auch schon denken.
Jedenfalls bin ich heilfroh das Du wieder online bist und Deine technische Kompetenz, v.a. in Hinblick auf Solaris (still the worlds best engineered operating system) teilst.
Dein Blog ist eine quasi unverzichtbare Informations und Wissensquelle die ich sehr schätze.
Weiter so und vielen vielen Dank!

PS: Mir fehlt hier auf der Seite irgendwo ein Donate-Button, würde mich gerne erkenntlich zeigen. Alternativ eine Amazon Wishlist?

Albeit there is a hidden donate button, i don't want donations, as this blog was just a hobby and it's not that expensive to host a root server in germany because of the fierce competition of hosters here.

Perhaps a few good blog posts would be to point to new sources of information....

Like Ben Rockwoods posts although of late most of them are more non tech..

Your blog has inspired myself along with many others to improve our Solaris skills. I hope to see a small trickle of good content.
